Buffalo Bills Hired OC Brian Daboll

Buffalo Fanatics, let's slow down the hype train on Daboll. There are positives and negatives about the man’s track record. Let’s examine.

2017 – Daboll had a co-offensive coordinator at Alabama named Mike Locksley. How much credit do we actually give him for Alabama’s successes, including the National Championship game against Georgia?

2000-2006 / 2013-2016 – Multiple positions with the Patriots. Heath Evans was quoted saying, “when he was in New England, he was never the guy I would have considered the brains of the operation.”

2012 – Chiefs rushing attack was amazing. Jamaal Charles rushed for 1509 yards and averaged 5.3 YPC. In fact, 3 of the 4 years in the NFL Daboll called plays, his team had 3 1000 yard rushers. Probably outstanding news for Shady. The man should eat in 2018.

2009-2012 – Browns/Dolphins/Chiefs OC. Daboll lead offenses that were some of the leagues worst. However, to Daboll’s credit, he fielded teams during this span that included starting QBs Brady Quinn, Colt McCoy, Matt Moore, and Matt Cassel. Hard to win with no talent at QB. As we’ve seen in Buffalo the last few years.

Optimistically, my favorite quote when researching Brian Daboll, was from Ross Pierschbacher, OG from Alabama. He said that “You can definitely tell that Coach Daboll came from the Patriots and from Belichick’s system. He’s very detailed and organized. I feel like he gets here early and stays here late. I don’t even think he sleeps, to be honest.”

Time will tell, but Brian Daboll certainly has some good and bad baggage. Let’s hope for the best.
