I just paid a visit to the CoinDesk website as I like to go there for information, but also because I like to listen to the podcasts ran by Jennifer Sanasie. She is involved in daily markets update podcasts, and also bringing short news podcasts that I listen to whenever I have time and opportunity.
Today, as I visited the website, I noticed that they have interviewed Richard Teng, the leader of Binance who took over after CZ was forced to leave the job. It is very interesting to listen to him, also because he isn't that much of a celebrity in the crypto-community (yet), at least not compared to CZ.
One of the most interesting things was that he explained how Binance has more than 220,000,000 users worldwide. Just let that dig in for a second. The world is full of kids who cannot open exchange accounts and who cannot really understand what's going on. But, there are almost 8 billion people in the world, which means that about 2,5% of the world population should have an account by Binance if that information is correct. Isn't that a kind of crazy number? There are for sure lots of unused accounts, double accounts, and spam accounts, but still, that is a number that makes one understand that crypto isn't just a small business in the shadows, but it is something that people are interested in.
Richard also explains about how they do a lot of work to get the required licenses to be approved for work in all sorts of countries, and it is very clear to see that crypto is booming in "third-world" countries where the banking industry isn't working as well, and where inflation is threatening the local currencies (even more than in the west).
