Currently, Amazon is testing in Seattle, without a cash register grocery store "Amazon GO". Although it is this system which can do accounting only by picking goods by using various sensors, appearance seems to be difficult to develop. Meanwhile, in China, an Amazon GO-style unmanned convenience store " BingoBox " appeared!
BingoBox allows unattended settlement like Amazon GO, but it is characterized by using " two-dimensional barcode " at various places in the system. From entering stores to accounting at the cash register, we read the two-dimensional barcode in a spirited manner. It is not as smart as Amazon GO, but system development seems to be easier this way.
In the cashier, when you put the item, what kind of item was picked up is scanned and the payment code by the fine trust payment Wechat or Alipay is displayed. With this system, it seems easy for China to accept payment with 2D barcodes widely.
According to Tech in Asia, BingoBox currently works with the French Super Auchan (Ocean), seeking funds and aiming to expand stores.
Either way, it may be the day to see unmanned convenience stores that use such 2D barcodes.
