Dry eye syndrome, aka dry eye disease (DED) is a very common condition that is caused by a chronic lack of moisture and lubrication on the surface of the eye. It is a pervasive problem in our society with very few FDA-approved medications. One of the major hurdles to developing new drugs is the difficulties of modeling the pathophysiology in human eyes.
