The fastest flying creature is not a bird

The fastest flying animal is not a bird but a mammal. By this discovery, the ornithologists of the Max Planck German Society have come to this discovery.

Earlier, it was believed that the Black Swift keeps a speed record on a horizontal flight - the bird develops up to 110 km / h, measured back in the 1950s.

German and American scientists have now found that aerodynamics and longer wings allow Brazilian tailed bats to fly at a speed of 160 km / h in a horizontal flight.

To measure their speed, ornithologists attached light flying transmitters to the flying mice, whose signals were received by a special dron. "At first we could not believe: sometimes female bats weighing 11-12 grams reached a speed of 160 km / h," says co-author of the scientific publication of Kamran Safi's discovery.
