Kingfisher - was lucky catching a tiny fish

in birdphotography •  3 years ago

On yesterday's trip at the Inn River in #Upper-Austria, I had the luck to take several pictures of birds again. One of the most beautiful birds that lives here is the Kingfisher. It was hunting some small fish directly in front of me, and I had to document this. It was a little far away but due to the river being right in front of my, I couldn't get any closer. I also didn't want to bother it, so it flees.

The Kingfisher just caught a fish and killed it with some movements, hitting the fish onto the branch it was sitting on. I was watching and documenting this procedure witch only took several seconds before the kingfisher flew off.

It was a pretty hot day yesterday and thats why I am happy that I was able to take several pictures of birds even though the weather conditions might have not been the best for bird photography because of the hot weather. Usually when it is very hot outside a lot of species don't show up during the day. OK I must admit that most of the pictures I took yesterday, were from early morning and early evening but still even during the hot time of the day I was able to get some reasonable results (a marsh harrier, a night heron, a little egret and a buteo).
