1.jpg

White-Backed Woodpecker. Medium sized woodpecker. A characteristic feature are white spots on the back, wings, a fully red cap (in males), and a kind of black eyebrows that give the woodpecker an angry appearance >:(

2.jpg

"Hey, buddy, I don't like you!"
He saw me and looked suspiciously :)

3.jpg

Knock!
When he hits a tree, automatically closed eyes with eyelids. And thus, the eyes are protected from the retinal bundle, and small fragments get into them.

4.jpg

Pay attention to the tail. It serves as a convenient support.

Did you know that woodpeckers have extraordinarily thick skulls to protect their brain from all the hammering.

I know, that the brain of these birds densely adjoins to the skull, and therefore it simply physically has no place for movement. In addition, the woodpecker's brain is stretched more vertically than horizontally and, thus, the load is distributed over a larger area.

Beautiful bird and photos. I can't decide which I like more :) I'll choose the third one with closed eyes woodpecker.

thank you! :)))

Great shots @ratel! What a beautiful red cap they have. You're right about the eyebrow, that's funny :)

Thanks! :)
Yes, unlike the great spotted woodpeckers, he has a hat for the whole head.

Как красиво он сочетается с окрасом бересты)

Majestuoso Simplemente.
