The birth of John the Baptist: He will be a joy and delight to you, and many will rejoice because of his birth. Luke 1:14

The gospel of Luke begins the annunciation of the Kingdom of God, the dominion or empire of God's perfections, with the miraculous conception of John the Baptist, a conception that due to its characteristics is reminiscent of the conception of the prophet Samuel, because both births were produced by the assistance of the holy spirit. And like the prophet Samuel, John the Baptist was conceived to be a person consecrated to God, that is, a Nazirite.
John the Baptist was the son of a priest named Zechariah and his wife Elizabeth, both parents were people who feared God and were faithful to the law of Moses; the gospel of Luke also relates that Elizabeth, according to the words of the angel Gabriel, was a relative of Mary, the mother of Jesus. John the Baptist was a person filled with the holy spirit and an emulator of the prophet Elijah, and with the testimony of his life, he prepared the way for Jesus, baptizing him with water in the Jordan River.
With these words, the Angel Gabriel announced to the priest Zechariah the conception and birth of John the Baptist while Zechariah was in the temple:
"But the angel said to him: ´Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to call him John. He will be a joy and delight to you, and many will rejoice because of his birth, for he will be great in the sight of the Lord. He is never to take wine or other fermented drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit even before he is born. He will bring back many of the people of Israel to the Lord their God. And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the parents to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous—to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.´" Luke 1:13-17.
