I began in 2010 exploring birth, I wanted to see what it looked like for other women. My own experiences of pregnancy and birth were traumatic and I was searching for a way to heal. I photographed my first birth in 2012 and it was the beginning of a life changing path for me personally and professionally. I won't go into the details now, but a stand out element of what I've been honoured to witness over the last 6 years is just how incredible women are. I've held the space and captured the journies of so many "Birthing Goddesses", I feel I have a plethora of experiences to share with the world. I certainly can't share all of the photographs, but for the few that I can, I'm honoured to do so with the hope that it will show other women what is possible.
This is Amy, she is the epitome of the Birthing Goddess! She has grown and carried children within her body for many years now. Her journey has been epic, hard, joyous, and life-changing.
Her house is always full of the warmth of love, the energy of spirit and the bodies of those who hold the values of the space for her. It is without exception then that when she births, she needs her tribe around her.
She labours with pride and trust. She is strong with acceptance and soft with nurturing.
There is nothing more beautiful to me than witnessing the true power of a woman immersed in the realm of childbirth. It is an experience like no other that embodies the essence of what it is to be a woman - the waves of labour, the fire and water, the support and solitude, the intensity and the relief.
These moments, in all their intensity and anticipation, are what bind us together as family. All of us, including you who sit and read this post and ponder these images, are the result of such amazing moments. You can't escape the instinctual, primal influence of it.
Love and peace to you all ~ Victoria xx
