Ever wish you could revert back to your 18-year-old self, when hangovers didn’t exist and your metabolism could burn through calories just by walking to the fridge? For one pensioner, this dream has finally become a reality thanks to a quirk of his birth date.Because he was born on a leap year, John Wheeler only has a true birthday every four years. This means he’s only just reached his 18th birthday, despite being born 72 years ago.
“I feel like I only ever really want to celebrate on my true birthday, rather than the other three years when it doesn’t appear on the calendar. It doesn’t feel like much of a celebration then, although my family always do something to celebrate.”Despite celebrating his birthday unofficially each year, Wheeler went all out for his 18th: “We had the family get-together of 18 of us at the arboretum and the open house on Sunday with all our friends and neighbors. All my friends and family say they think I act like an 18-year-old anyway.”
