Celebrating my Birthday with old movies and fresh made cakes

This is an old bengali movie. It remains in my mind a reminder of how one's childhood should be. Not a lazy couch potato but enacting historic battle with friends or planning some escapades or adventures. Youth should be crazy and unrestrained with hope of endless possibilities. That is what this movie represents for me.

Story at a glance for my friends who might not understand the language:

The main character(MC) is a youth who has strong following in his village. He also has an arch-enemy who always tries to get even with him. There is one sequence where the MC creates trouble in school and when the security come, he chucks a snake at them and leaves school for good.

There are also several other sequences where the MC foils his enemies plans for picnic with someone's stolen goat. The sequence looks like well planned military ambush. The story then moves forward with sequences where the MC's parent s decide it's time to get him married so that he starts getting responsible. But the MC decides against that and decides he will become a "sanyasi" and start his journey for Himalayan mts. But of course he gets caught on his way and lands back home.

Finally he get wed to this nice girl, they have some cute sequence there as well where he makes his friends touch his wife's feet as he is there leader. That shot was hilarious.

The MC goes to his in-laws place who are big shots. For context, this movie depicts a period when India was colonised by British and the MC's in-laws are big shots with the British government hopeful of getting a nice title. The MC is outspoken and there is a sequence where he makes a comment on his in-law being fat and he should go workout which gets leaked and everyone starts teasing their family about it.

Then there is a twist with a freedom fighter who is his brother-in-law. The MC helps him run when he was ambushed by British police. Finally the movie ends with the MC running away with his wife from her mother's place under chase from his father-in-law. It's one of the oldest car chases in Indian films and the chase also stays true to the films essence where the steering comes of the car as well as all the other parts also eventually get ripped. By the time the MC races back home with his Bride, the car has been completely trashed.

Let me know if you like the movie and the spirit of freedom and human spirit it celebrates.
