Why You Shouldn’t Celebrate Your Birthday by Popoola Oluwatolani Michael

Today, I was very sad because of the motive people array to birthday parties and celebrations, this has forced me out of my hidden place and to write this feathery article. I will be very happy if you can read this from the first to the last word and hold onto what it’s vies. Nevertheless, I didn’t pen this article down to insult anyone but to inspire all, including my humble self.
Every day, it’s very common that someone somewhere is celebrating his or her birthday, there is no day passed without a garden of birthday party. This really shows how prominent birthdays are to people. The only day people gather to celebrate some people each year is on their birthday; their birthday is only their clue of living. Are you in that category?

Some in their lifetime, they will only be celebrated three times, which are:
– Their bore day
– Their wedding day
– Their funeral day.
Nigerians are known for celebrating deaths of the individual despite the deceased dying without fulfilling his or her purpose. We heard of a Nigerian drug trafficker killed in Indonesia and was given a befitting burial back home.
It ridiculous when people only achievement is their birthdate and nothing outside of that. Celebrating your birthday outside your purpose will scar your life the more because you are celebrating the birth you are not living inside. Remember the moment someone dies, no one celebrates his or her birthday but the achievements. This is a very serious question and I ought you to answer with all sincerity if I die now, will I be celebrated? What have I achieved?

As a matter of course, many of us think we have more days to achieve our mission but I desire to tell you that the best time to start is now. Live your dream!

Years ago, I lost my Grand Pa, a good physician, and Senior Medical Lecturer and Doctor at University of Ibadan Teaching Hospital but his footprints still lives on because he has achieved a milestone. I could well flashback to the 27th of September, 2016, when we celebrated one of his wrap-ups.

Brethren, if you think living outside of your dream will aim your money, remember money cannot give you happiness. The only place you can invest to be celebrated is on your purpose and the only bank you can invest is the Bank of Purpose. Extremely, spending money on your birthday is not bad, what makes it bad is when you are not living in the purpose of the birth you are celebrating, when you have not discovered WHY you are born and yet celebrating. Spending decades and yet living in a blind world? Oh, a proverb says “the number of people you affect utter your real age”. Now, is the number of those you have affected equally to your age? If no, then what’s so special about your new age? I hope to guess this saying correctly, Dr. Olukoya once stated that “if you are not affecting lives positively, you are living a useless life”.

TO KNOW YOUR REAL AGE, COUNT THE NUMBER OF LIFE YOU HAVE AFFECT POSITIVELY!

Moreso, before celebrating a birthday, you ought to know your WHY on EARTH
Question like…
– Who are you?
– What is my mission on earth?
– How will I achieve it?
– In whom can I achieve it?

Although, there are many identity questions but the ones listed are the common ones. If you are celebrating your birthday without knowing all these, you are spending your money on birthday without knowing the purpose rather reason behind your birth.

The fact remains that the only thing that will array you a good legacy is your achievements and certainly not your birthday. So instead of saving to spend on your birthday, rather invest it on your purpose that will bring your lifetime achievements.

Nevertheless celebrate, save and spend on your identity more than your birthday. Even in the Bible, the three wise men, that saw Jesus star celebrated his identity, not his birth. I don’t know late Nelson Mandela’s birthdate but I can list his achievements. Moreso, I don’t know late Martin Luther King Jr’s birthdate but I can also list is achievements. From this instances, we see that nobody is remembered his or her birthdays but achievements. Everybody still screams the Martin Luther King Jr’s “I HAVE A DREAM” speech. Nobody is born to celebrate a birthday but to accomplish the purpose and affect life positively.

Just before I pen down, here are some true story and not a folktale;

Near my residence, there is a popular prostitute who lives close. I happened to be at home on her birthday and heard her conversation with her partner on how she has been saving and ready to spend and club all day.
Dear reader, what is she celebrating? How many people she has had sex with? The number of abortion she has committed? Destiny she has knowingly killed or what? Because no woman of homely reputation will open her leg wide for men rather the man that is not her husband.
Moreso I have a friend, a very good smoker, drinker, drunker, sex addict and a club goer. If they should give an award for the titles above, I am very sure he will be bag all. All the same, he is the only guy that doesn’t have N10000 in his account but has N500000 clothes and over 600,000 jewelry, watches, chains, and shoes. He is now down-and-out. But the point is yearly the same guy used to organized three days party at a very popular and costly club (name jettisoned) just to celebrate his birthday, seriously I have never been to his birthday parties because in what essence is it positively beneficial? What is he celebrating? An unpurposed life! The same known baller is now broke and begging to eat, even those he usually paid their club fees cannot spare him out.
But lets for a while imagine him using his time and money to pursue and develop his potentials, maybe he would have joined the league of the young and getting it.

I asked myself during my trail time whether to celebrate 31st of October, which happen to be my birthday? And the answer that boiled in my mind is NO! Celebrating a fulfilled man is better than celebrating the oldest man without an achievement and celebrating achievement is better than celebrating a birthday. Jesus left at 33 but he lived a fulfilled life. Methuselah is biblically the oldest man that lived on earth and yet he was not remembered nor celebrated.

Everyone lives but not everyone live to the fullest. I desire to stop here I guess you have sucked the juice out the orange. Let me quickly end with this, use the money you desire to celebrate your birthday to pursue your purpose because that’s the only thing that will make people celebrate you forever. Bear this in your hearts, YOUR PURPOSE IS YOUR LEGACY, GO FOR IT.

Live your life in God’s purpose; the best thing to know is WHO YOU ARE, the best school to attend is the SCHOOL OF YOUR PURPOSE and the best result to have is the ACCOMPLISHMENT OF YOUR PURPOSE.
Thank you!
