United States: Bitfinex close accounts on November 9

Bitfinex had already been forced to withdraw from Washington state in May, following the publication of Senate Law 5031. It is now the entire American territory that is banished from the platform.

It was already impossible for Americans to get a verified account, but as of November 9, all U.S. accounts related to Bitfinex will be closed. In a post posted Monday, the platform announced to its American customers that they had to make their withdrawals before that date, otherwise the tokens will be retrieved by the platform.

Bitfinex had already announced in August that the legislative ground of the United States was not favorable to them. Too expensive to integrate, the platform had even explained in a statement that "U.S-based exchanges are better positioned to look after American customers."

Complex regulations

This attitude was undoubtedly the result of an increasingly expected regulation of foreign exchange exchanges. Since not all countries were housed in the same category, it was increasingly complicated for Bitfinex to take advantage of its presence in the market, without spending too much to satisfy regulators. It is known that Poloniex, another platform for exchange of cryptomonas, had also banned the users of the State of Washington, due to similar problems, and will undoubtedly have to follow the same route.
