Ben Bernanke was a special guest invited to speak at Swell conference, fully financed by Ripple, said that Bitcoin has no future and, eventually, it will fail. He expressed very similar opinion to Jamie Dimon. In Bernanke opinion Bitcoin will fail because governments won't allow it to exist and compete with fiat money. I agree about harsh government pressure on Bitcoin, especially, if it will continue to rise. Currently, Bitcoin has almost no impact on traditional economic and financial system but if it will pose any kind of threat governments will ban it very harshly.
As many people blindly believe that Bitcoin is unstoppable what could be potential steps taken by governments to ban Bitcoin?
First of all, they will ban all gateways associated with BTC to fiat and vice versa exchange. Secondly, mining ban and criminal case for all BTC miners. Thirdly, if Bitcoin network is still alive, massive surveillance and imprisonment of all Bitcoin users who trade BTC via peer to peer decentralized network. Finally, I will be not surprised to see first death penalties in dictatorial regimes, like China and Russia, for Bitcoin users.
Just remember, as in all cases, world governments not allow anything they can't control. Bitcoin isn't an exemption.
