I think that Bitcoin is much better than gold in terms it is easy to store, carry and save. You don't need brokers or fancy storage to guard your gold. BTC is better for digital age. That said I also think BTC is going to scale in the future and add a new layer of anonymity. We need just patience and some good developers.
