It's Been One Week Since the Unconfiscatable Bitcoin Conference in Las Vegas

Last week, I had the privilege of attending the Unconfiscatable, "bitcoin not blockchain" conference.

Speakers included bitcoin icons like Saiffadean Ammous (author of The Bitcoin Standard), Jimmy Song, Peter Todd, Max Keiser and Stacy Herbert, and many more. The event was hosted by Tony Vays.

There were so many brilliant talks, I still have a lot of writing to do and uploading of videos. I recorded some short clips and live-streamed large portions of many talks via Instagram and Twitter.

This is just a short post to start things off. I have already posted some clips to my Instagram feed, and the Twitter live-streams can be seen in my feed. Follow me on both platforms with the same handle, @bdncontent.

The conference was a smaller one with about 200 - 300 people present (I'm guessing). Compare this to conferences like San Francisco Blockchain Week, which have upwards of 4,000 people in attendance.

I think the reason is because this conference shuns "shitcoins," i.e. any cryptocurrency or blockchain project other than bitcoin. I understand the rationale behind this mentality and even agree with it somewhat, as bitcoin has unique properties that can't be replicated. There have also been so many scams and worthless tokens created over the last two or three years.

But I believe that excluding everyone else who is not a "bitcoin maximalist" only creates division and isolation.

From a financial perspective, bitcoin has the potential to create a new monetary standard. It's the hardest money that has ever been created, with a fixed supply of 21 million coins.

But there's no reason we can't have competition. There are plenty of other blockchain projects that have promise, even if their tokens aren't as hard as bitcoin.

Steemit is an obvious example. This platform allows people to freely express their views in a world where censorship has become commonplace. Zerohedge got banned from Twitter recently, illustrating the need for alternative platforms like Steemit.

I have been neglecting Steemit as I find myself focusing on the other platforms too much, even though they are not nearly as fun or high-quality. I just put Steemit on the back-burner, probably because I post to the other platforms through Buffer, which allows me to kill multiple birds with a single stone, so to speak.

Steemit requires a lot more time and effort, but it's well worth it. I get to sit down and just write free-form like this in a manner I don't often have the luxury of doing these days, as I mainly write for clients and my own books.

That's all I have to say at this point, thanks for reading. More to come soon.
