EOS is something different they have their own protocol, arguably better than Ethereum. With no gas limit graphene network etc.
Some say that you could even make Capser (Ethereum last stage) a EOS contract.
Still difficult to know since many self made protocols are on the way (Tezos Aeternity, etc)
But these projects are on the very early stages and certainly Ethereum has gained a lot of traction hostig most ICO´s.
