Every Bitcoiner I meet is in the game for profit or because they believe cryptocurrencies are the best alternative to the current fiat system. The latter is a popular position bought about by the realisation that our currency isn’t serving us. In fact it is more than not serving us - it is enslaving us. But that is a blog for elsewhere.
I have known Bitcoin for some time, when I met Bitcoin, I fell in love. I fell in love with the security, the indiscriminate nature, the freedom from our banking system and the sheer thrill of taking that risk. Most of all, I loved the fact that cryptocurrencies could provide a system of banking to the 2 Billion people without a bank. Bitcoin was our knight in shining armour. Together, with Bitcoin we could change the world. I’m sure you’re all familiar with the times where you couldn’t stop telling your friends and family how great Bitcoin was! You were in LOVE!
I know many who began their journey started with this love affair. We all talk about the roller coaster and we celebrate the ups while we hold our breath on the falls. We’ve seen the birth of hundreds of Alt Coins and profited from these as well.
It hasn’t been that long but the relationship appears to have shifted. Bitcoin continues to fill our pockets and the opportunities have exploded. Cars, mansions and extravagance are associated with our once humble and world changing currency. Bitcoin has created billionaires and our bank-less are still bank-less.
Social media is now rife with the images of successful (I use that word loosely) crypto-preneurs relaxing on beaches, drinking Pina Colada’s, posting and boasting about their wins and triumphs. Don’t get me wrong, I am thankful for the motivational quotes generated by the newly made Bitcoin thousandares and millionaires. I just know, you cannot change the world with likes and Instagram jpegs.
In the perfect world our relationship with Bitcoin would be balanced, we would profit and give back while Bitcoin and the Alt Coins continue to deliver. I’m not trying to guilt you for being determined to climb your way out of your fiat debts and disaster. I am simply asking every crypto-preneur to remember where they came from and to pay it forward.
Don’t worry, if you are guilted out, I have the perfect remedy. Crypto Blackboard is a proud supporter of Bithope.org and you can be too. You CAN help whistle-blower Edward Snowden, you can aid those with mental health disorders and even support those with preeclampsia.
