The current structure of huge warehouses with miners seems to be the opposite to a decentralised p2p currency.
Add to that, the difficult problem will tend to lend itself to the fastest computational hardware, seems to suggest that as an alternative to real money, its lifetime is going to be limited.
The real problem is human nature and greed. Until that obstacle is overcome there will never be a realistic crypto currency to replace real money.
