To alt or not to alt? That is the question ...
Should you convert all your alts to BTC in preparation for a potential BTC Bull Run? It depends. If you're in bad coins, then yes (e.g. search "Peter Bennett" and "XVG", LMAO). If you're in promising coins, you have to step outside technical analysis and guess if any potential developments or annoucements may occur in the next 2 months.
In other words, if I considered selling $100K worth of XLM to get into BTC I'd need to decide if that $100K would perform better as BTC than it might as XLM. With BTC, I think we'll see a 2-2.5x increase before another correction, but 3x may be a stretch. So I could possibly turn $100K into $250K if BTC hits $25K by sometime in late Feb / early Mar (NOTE, I'm not taking into account the 20% increase in taxes going from cap gains to ordinary income to keep my math easy, but this is also a consideration).
However, what might happen to XLM during this same time period? What if there was a FairX announcement? They were supposed to announce something in late Jan / early Feb ... what if they announced a seamless exchange that leveraged XLM trading pairs or at least the ability to easily convert XLM to fiat? I believe that could send XLM vertical, easily eclipsing the 2.5x I could do in BTC.
Now, a middleground would be to convert to BTC then set conditional limit orders to buy back into XLM at some "breakout" price. Warning, make sure you give enough buffer to ensure your order is filled ... whether going up or down, crypto moves so fast it will sometimes skip your order altogether, be it a SL or a limit order.
Regardless, I'll go on record right now ... XLM is going to have a monster year and by Dec 31st it will easily have beat BTC in gains, so I'm holding my core position no matter what BTC does.
The other primary positions I'm accumulating no matter what are XRP, OMG, LSK and ARK. I also have another one that I'll provide a write-up on soon. And yes, I still have TRX too, but not because I fundamentally believe in it (i.e. it's a hyped coin right now), but rather because I already 3x'd my money and I fundamentally believe in The Game of Whales.
Warning:
- Remember, I'm a VC so I just want to own a total number of coins over time and my time horizon is years not days.
- Day-trading crypto will make you go crazy.
- Find a few coins you believe in, establish a position and a strategy then do yourself a favor ... go days or weeks without checking prices. Live your life.

I like it. And additionally, the XLM example proves consistent with some important people. The Reddit co-founder just predicted a big year for Stellar!

If you pick good alts and both bitcoin and your chosen alt coin increase together, you get magnified profits above that of bitcoin alone if i'm not mistaken.
Of course you can't rely on these two independent events aligning, but it seems to me that the value proposition of strong alt coin in a market in which bitcoin is climbing is superior to investing bitcoin alone.
e.g. Say chosen alt coin is at
0.1satoshi's with a bitcoin price of 10K = for 1 coin
0.1 x 10K bitcoin = $1000USD
If bitcoin climbs to 20K you double on bitcoin if you're invested in it, but if you're in an alt that also doubles you get a squared result
0.2satoshi x 20K bitcoin = $4000
This is how i understand it anyway...am i correct or am i missing something?
Cheers for your post.

Cool....
I hear you on the wise investment tip.
Quick question
Obviously I'll invest all my life savings + those of my family members...but should i base the trade decisions off darts? Or should i just go large and get the full 'octopus that can see the future' set up?

Only invest what you can lose.

So....the clairvoyant octopus?
Haha, I'm just playing around. I nominated a very small % of my savings to invest initially, I've tripled my investment and pulled out most my starting money now, so yeah. It's all good. Cheers.

Who is Peter Bennett? People mention him frequently about his calls, I googled but found nothing.??
