Hi Steemers... So Storm is a crypto currency that has jumped to 57th place on coinmarketcap with an impressive rally of over 202% over the last 7 days. This is quite "striking" given that the rest of the market is trading fairly poorly. Whenever I see moves like this, I always do some digging into the technology and what the company is trying to achieve. Here is my quick take after about 2-3 hours of research.
Basically Storm allows people to earn bolt/storm tokens when they complete micro tasks/freelance work on their gamified platform. Ok so what exactly does this mean? Imagine you are travelling on a bus with nothing to do. You could potentially login into their app on your smartphone, complete a few tasks like watching videos of new products or services, doing some product testing or other freelance tasks. When you get to your stop you close the app and continue on with your day, however you have earned a few storm tokens over the period for the micro tasks you completed.
This is similar in ways to Facebook. Advertisers pay Facebook a load of cash to push ads onto the Facebook platform which you see and interact with. The advertiser gets valuable data/leads from you the user and Facebook pockets the cash and gets to have a $500bn valuation. In the world of the storm market, you will basically be getting the fees that the advertiser would normally be paying to Facebook. It was you the user that provided the value in terms of your time and your feedback. Ultimately you should earn the fee not Facebook... this seems a more fair world.
Full disclosure... I dont own any Storm tokens and have only started researching it today. I think it an interesting concept though there are quite a few companies trying to disrupt the current Pay per click/view advertising model. Storm does try to put its focus more on the freelancer market place which seems the differentiator. As stands I dont see why or why not Storm will be the one to crack it. I am wary however of a token that is already trading at a $260mil market cap which doesn't yet have an iphone version of the app released. I do like the singular focus which I think increases the probability of success. Their mission statement is to help users earn anytime, anywhere from any device.
The growth rate of the installations is quite impressive from the graph below. They also have a few well know advisors like Charles Hoskinson the Founder of Ada/Cardano and the Co-founder of Ethereum.
The whitepaper is fairly simple and digestible. Storm is actually a rebrand of BitMaker and is an ERC20 compliant token. https://s3.amazonaws.com/cakecodes/pdf/storm_web/STORM_Token_White_Paper_Market_Research_Network_Development_vFINAL_.pdf
The whitepaper gives the example of a world where you can hire your team from freelancers across the world. Companies like Fiverr, Taskrabbit and Upwork already do this but take somewhere in the region of 40% of the fees. The storm market place would naturally disrupt this and leave all the fees in the hands of the freelance workers. The monthly active users is actually quite impressive. The whitepaper also details quite a deep understanding of gamification and the types of users they expect to have.
I would suggest that if you on Android, download the app and have a play with it. Unfortunately iphone isn't supported just yet. I'm going to test it on a friends phone for myself and see how effective it can be for me. I want to know, like and use the product before I commit to buying any of their tokens. Having say that, if you interested in buying the storm tokens before that you can find them on Binance. Here is a referral link if you don't yet have a Binance account...

Also please let me know what you think of the Storm market place. It seems like the freelancer work equivalent of Steemit. Any feedback is welcome, I'm also looking to learn from other people ... thanks
Awesome so like steemit we can earn there also.

That’s too bad. But some people waste a lot of time in those silly casino online games and such. Perhaps monetizing it is a good idea anyway.
Also, when you’re an alt coin trading at low prices, any “good” move will move you up in the ranks.

Thanks for sharing. I will watch this very closely as I have ample of time at my disposal for the next few months.
Meanwhile you can check Phore out. It's a fork of PIVX, but more community driven. Here's my Phore blog post

Steemit seems to have the capability to fit in a freelance model with #steemgigs or even #steemshop.
But even so, a replacement for upwork, is a great idea, since it’s such an expensive service to use.
Blogmutt could use a replacement too.

Funny enough I've been using Storm app for some time now, I even started when it was still bitmaker. Good app, you all should download it, cause it also gives you a choice of withdrawing your claims in Bitcoin, Ethereum and Storm.
