Crypto Currency Terms for Beginners

in bitcoin •  7 years ago

When you first start learning about crypto currencies, you will probably come across lots of terms you are unfamiliar with. Here are a few of the most common ones to help you get going:

Fiat Currency
Traditional currency such as dollars, pounds or euros

FOMO
Fear Of Missing Out

FUD
Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt

HODL
Short for “Hold On For Dear Life”. Meaning you are going to hold on to your investment long term, maybe through a dip, and don’t plan to sell.

ICO
Short for “Initial Coin Offering”. It’s a way for start-ups using the Blockchain to gain investment to develop their idea. In return for your investment you will get their coins or tokens before they are listed on the exchange, therefore potentially making big gains should the project become successful.

To the moon
An expression meaning you think a coin will shoot up in value

Whales
People or groups of people with large holdings in a coin who can create price swings in the market when they buy or sell
