Living, Breathing, & Betting on Bitcoin - MSM coverage for American millenials

Video by: Vice News

Bitcoin getting millennial mainstream coverage. This interview to Olaf Carlson-Wee by Vice News was just released yesterday on Youtube

From Wikipedia: "Vice News primarily targets a younger audience comprised predominantly of millennials, the same audience to which its parent company (Vice Media) appeals."

Note: I'm not endorsing Vice News here, I'm just pointing out the fact they are covering Bitcoin to their targeted young audience. Just want to ask you guys what you think about this and how this coverage impacts the crypto world.

Video description:
Odds are that you’ve been hearing more and more about cryptocurrency as digital tokens like bitcoin and ethereum have become valuable commodities. Converts (and investors) say that cryptocurrencies built on blockchain technology represent the future of money, finance, and commerce. But skeptics say that digital currencies represent crowd-sourced pyramid schemes or are fuel for another tech bubble. We met with Olaf Carlson-Wee, who was the first employee at the cryptocurrency broker Coinbase, where he famously took his entire salary in bitcoin. Now, Carlson-Wee runs a hedge fund that deals exclusively in crypto-assets. We talked with Carlson-Wee in San Francisco about money, trust, and how he made his friends rich.

So, what do you think? Is Bitcoin becoming the millennial generation's Gold?

Is Gold doomed to fail as the older generations retire from investing? Or, is crypto the one that will fail in your opinion?

excellent video! thanks for sharing

Thank you @cryptoeagle.

Put your hands on as much as you can....cryptocurrencies arent going anywhere. They are here to stay. In fact, the more rhetoric we hear from the bankers, the more legitimacy they give to it.

The banks sound like horse buggy dealers bitching about the smelly, oily and dangerous cars for which there are no roads.. haha

Are you saying you believe their outcome will resemble that of the buggy dealer? LOL

The truth is that I am watching many who are taking the position of the horse buggy dealer while technology is flying along. It really is an interesting thing to witness.

Technology is bulldozing many people and industries without many knowing it.

At the time it wasn't that crazy. Cars were really bad, broke all the time, there were no roads or gas stations near consumers. The same is happening now but this time the transition will be much faster, a lot of people will not know what hit them...

Sounds a lot like the attacks launched at Muck and Tesla....there are no charging stations, the batteries dont have enough range. they are expensive, they cant build enough of them, etc...

Indeed, electric cars are the future too. The advantages are so many! Car companies are capitulating already https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/innovations/wp/2017/10/02/death-of-diesel-begins-as-gm-announces-plans-for-all-electric-future/?utm_term=.0c7e19a147da

Yes... ironic you posted that, I was just reading this....talks about the end of the fossil fueled based car...

https://www.wired.com/story/gm-ford-electric-this-week/

Ive been holding off buying an electric car becuase I think batteries are still too expensive and don't last but this is rapidly changing. Also, living in Florida, the car would become a power station for my home during hurricanes and I could potencially charge it with solar panels or a even wind turbine. I'm liking the idea more and more

Check out the Five Stages of Grief in the following post. They describe pretty well how incumbents react to disruptive technologies. It's amazing how history tends to repeat itself but with new flavors each time.

Similar to the dot com, there will probably be a culling effect on the cryptos. I wonder which ones will survive..

I read that a while back...it is very good and I think captures the essence of what we are describing.

Peter Diamandis called technology deceptive right before it is disruptive....so the masses sleep just before the boom.

Is Jamie Dimon the alarm clock for cryptocurrencies?

Jamie Dimon is a good marker indeed, it's like seeing Thomas Edison electrocuting elephants haha

The banks are like the proponents of the "Red Flag Law" during the early 1900s when automobiles were frowned upon and so the regulators required a person with a red flag to run ahead of the car to make sure no one got hurt. Idiots!

Yes, the bankers are afraid. The governments I believe pressured Bittrex to delist BTS because it was one exchange that they couldn't control or shut down....a decntralized exchange! Make sure you have the BTS exchange on you computer because soon, we all might need it as Poloniex, Bittrex, Kraken, Coinbase, BitFinex, etc...all are subject to the turn off switch the government has ready. BTS exchange will be like the only light in the darkness.

Thanks for the 411 as always @haejin.

Good call on Steem by the way....this is a very nice pullback and a buying opportunity.

Cryptos getting wiral more and more. I can tell by my friends. They start taking about it and asking for advice :)
Cheers!

How old are they in average?

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

2 weeks ago my friend call me and ask about advice - buy or not to buy, beacuse we talked maybe 1 year ago about BTC. He is 28 years old :)
Another one as well. He asked about my opinion which crypto is good to invest, and we talked last time 3 years ago or more. And when we were talked last time, he was like "Yea... yea... another scam".
Best is... they are on speculators stage. I can't wait when they realize real potential :)

Young people are adopting crypto more and more, the more time Bitcoin continues to survive without a major crash the more gold will be doomed as older investors retire or switch

I don't think Crypto is the new gold.. certainly the new gold rush, but not the same. I seriously doubt my cryptocurrency will be worth anything when I'm on my deathbed in 70 years, but I'd bet my house that my my lucky gold coin will still be as good as Gold when I die!

Not a knock on crypto, they're just different. Gold is just safer. My crypto is just speculation.

Bitcoin is really i big bank🙌🙌🙌

I agree! Young generation is more and more aware of cryptocurrencies. It's hard to change mindset right away. So change is slow, but its healthy and it comes with generations. Bit by bit...

wow What an amazing video, love it.

I think soon teens will have Bitcoin wallets way before checking accounts or even debit cards. The commerce or the merchants like Amazon or ebay tag bitcoins or dash or LTC....the the FIAT coffin nails get hammered in deeper.

hot post of the day

Is Bitcoin becoming the millennial generation's Gold ???

No , A decade later this will be millennial generation's Diamond.

I like the way Olaf Carlson-Wee explains the basic fundamentals of Bitcoins. When asked the complexity of Bitcoin, he cites Federal Reserve as more complex compared to Bitcoin. A very true statement.

Great post my friend @cryptoeagle!
Cryptos are our generation's retirement plan... Unfortunately...

Your post up is impressive. Followed @cryptoeagle

This is an inspirational video for the new comers in this cypto currency world!

WoW! What a great Video! Really exciting!
Thanks for sharing this @ crypteagle!

@cryptoeagle good to know these message is spreadout for millenials. I think they will be able to have enough freedom to change the world as every of us dream when we are young, and many of us still want a wealthier world with a better distribution. Thanks developers of blockchain and the ones who place the first foot to disrupt thebsystem. Each corrupted industry will be innovated and will give the control to people, whom deserve it. Banks and governments out of the way is the way of the future. At least banks and governments will serve differently and have much less control of our lifes and money. Just upvoted. @gold84

The internet has been a total game changer for how people of all ages are able to see the real scam.

People with any interest (no matter how minuscule) in getting the most value out of their money consider crypto; especially since they, as I, have observed what happens when listening to capitalist banks down-playing a crypto…

Can we all say in unison… BITCOIN?

Thanks for this post @cryptoeagle!

Peace.

great post!!

following for more :)
