Slovenia is the leading country in the entire world to host the first bitcoin monument at Kranj roundabout which links two roads in the fourth biggest city in the country. Besides, the opening ceremony saw many people attending and embracing the event.
First Public Bitcoin Monument
As reported by Reuters, the sculpture has a weight of three tonnes and a diameter of approximately seven meters. The circular structure has formed a roundabout in one of the busy roads in Krajn City and 30 km far from Ljubljana.
According to the mayor, Bostjan Trilar, the symbol was the choice of people who gave it a go-ahead on the official Facebook page of the city government. This is what Bostjan said, “We inquired with citizens on what to put on the new roundabout, and ‘bitcoin monument’ was among the first ideas we received. We decided to go with the idea because; Krajn has several firms dealing with the high technology.”
The monument is sponsored by Bitstamp and 3fs, Luxembourg based company and Slovenian-based tech Design Company respectively. On the other hand, the sculpture was built by Aleksander Frančeškin and Selman Čorović.
It may be the initial public bitcoin monument to get endorsed, but other cities such as Yekaterinburg, in Russia, have previously featured Bitcoin monuments in the past.
Besides, numerous artists show their support for the popular digital currency by creating bitcoin-related art. More so, there are some art shops and art-galleries that accept bitcoin as a payment option and that make bitcoin-themed art.
Following is the statement of a Cryptograffiti artist during an interview, “In the entire history, art has played an important role in spreading the movements. The art space is particularly crucial because the subject matter can be compound for the general public. Art aids in distilling message to something that people can understand.”
The Slovenia roundabout may not be game changing but portrays a trend that commenced some years ago. People already know about blockchain technology, and cryptocurrencies and the trend cannot be stopped because it keeps attracting more interested people.
It's funny that they've made a monument of it,
I think none of us were expecting that!
