It shouldn't be a surprise to anybody that Bitcoin hit an all-time high. This was to be expected. The question was not "if?" but "when?". So why now then? 2 main reasons could be pointed out:

Segwit Activation:

What is Segwit? Segregated Witness, often abbreviated to SegWit, is a proposed update to the Bitcoin software, designed to fix a range of serious issues. Activation started on 1st of August. It is expected that process will be finished on 22nd of August 2017.

U.S. and North Korea Tensions:

Tensions between the U.S. and North Korea pushed most of Asian investors to start looking for a "safe heaven" in bitcoin (Japanese yen was about 46% of global bitcoin trading volume on 13th of August. South Korea and China each made up about 12% of global volume).

What is next? The most probable scenario is that Bitcoin rally will continue. Despite of the fact that some investors are starting to fear that it has entered a bubble - blockchain technology doesn’t even touch the surface of its possibilities. So does the bitcoin's price.
