Bitcoin Cash for Beer
Helena, MT brewery now accepting Bitcoin Cash

What's the price of Bitcoin?
Lewis and Clark Brewery in Helena, Montana, is capitalizing on all of the Bitcoin hype. On Friday, the company announced that they would begin accepting Bitcoin Cash($bch) as payment.

Owner Max Pigman says he wanted to get patrons involved in a creative, fun way. Bitcoin Bitters, the newly introduced beer, is one of Max Pigman’s favorite recipes for a bitter.

A growler of Bitcoin Bitters fluctuates in relation to the price of Bitcoin Cash, a unique pricing strategy that encourages customers to track the price of Bitcoin. For example, if the price of Bitcoin drops below $8,000, a growler of Bitcoin Bitters will only cost customers four dollars.

Why Bitcoin Cash?
Max Pigman stated that Bitcoin’s technical issues, which are causing slow transaction times and higher fees for sending the cryptocurrency, led to his decision to accept Bitcoin Cash. He said he looked at using other digital currencies, such as Dash and Monero, but ultimately decided on Bitcoin Cash after doing some research.

Going forward, though, he is open to accepting additional currencies if scaling issues were resolved.

The Experience
Walking into the Lewis and Clark Brewery Tap Room from the West entrance is not as dramatic of an entrance as the South (main) entrance. From the main entrance, there are large windows with stainless steel vats where all the magic happens.

Previously, it was the main place where the company did their Brewing. As you walk down the hallway, you have beer to the right as you enter into the main Tap Room. The bar, located in the same direction, sits directly across from the stage. The stage, used for concerts, trivia, and general entertainment, is in the main room, which also happens to be the largest room in the brewery for patrons.

As you walk up to the bar, you are greeted with a sign advertising the newly added Bitcoin Bitters beer. The friendly bartenders are always quick to serve, and if ordering a Bitcoin Bitter, will check the price of Bitcoin Cash. Once this happens, the bartender will initiate the sending of Bitcoin Cash by asking you to scan the QR code and send the specified amount to brewery’s wallet.

At that point, the bartender will begin to fill up the growler, and will typically ask what would you like to drink while you're waiting for your growler. It only takes a minutes or so before the growler is washed out and filled, which is plenty of time for the Bitcoin Cash transaction to complete and provide notification of the successful exchange.

How's the beer taste?
Living in Montana, I know my way around in microbrewers. Bitcoin Bitters is very similar to just about any English Ale out there. The hops blends very well with the malts, giving the beer a smooth flavor. There's also a hint of spice, honey, thyme, lemon, and lavender. If you know your bitters, this one is going to stand out. It is a wonderfully balanced flavor of Montana grown and malted barley and hops.

Bitcoin Hype
It seems like nearly everyone is talking about Bitcoin, whether it be for investing, digital currency exchanges, or even for marketing. So the question is — is it working? You bet it is.

The Lewis and Clark Brewery, and this beer specifically, may get national attention in the coming weeks. It's a unique way for a local business to engage folks to get involved in knowing about the price of Bitcoin from week to week. It's also an exciting way to start conversations about cryptocurrency in general. As soon as this beer went live, several people lined up to be the first to pay for, and taste, Bitcoin Bitters — a strong indicator that this may be the start to a new trend.

It's so good to see a local business owner leading the way in brewing #beer as well as #tech do you agree? Max Pigman is having a little fun and at the same time taking advantage of using #cyrptocurrency to transfer value. No more CC processing fees if everyone would use it. Seems like he could end up saving a lot of money and get the advantage on the slow adopters.

I walked into the brewery once again and payed $6 for two growlers(gal) of beer. The price of bitcoin is down which reflects the price I am paying for beer. I could use cash or bitcoin cash to pay and I am always choosing to pay with crypto to support the cause. They're absolutely losing money on this promotion but it's great for the consumer.
