There's valid points on both sides of this conversation.
Although everyone is responsible for what they do with their own money and it's not any government's job to protect stupid people who refuse to educate themselves...... there's another point that goes overlooked.
When people get scammed it reflects on all of us. If you own crypto - ultimately you are suffering when scammers come into the industry.
People who were scammed are not shy about broadcasting to the world and to the media and anyone who will listen..... but they never say, "I was stupid and it's my fault." -- they blame the entire industry and this is YOU.

ICOs take the middleman out of fundraising for a new project, its unfortunate that some decide to take advantage of this.
On a side note paying to promote this post is the worst way to get more eyes on it. You are better off to divide that money between @booster, @minnowsupport and similar post promoting services. You may also want to consider renting Steem power for a month $160 would give you around 6000 Steem power for a month. Having steem power lets you give more rewards to users that comment on your post and encourages comments and follows.

Estonian government is doing wonderful improvements on the digital field! You can even become what they call "digital citizen", which gives you advantages to establish a company and a bank account without even having to visit the country. That programme, along with other digital solutions for their residents and citizens, make Estonia a great example. The biggest cases of hyperinflation recorded have actually occured to normal currencies, backed by central banks, ministres and entire governments.
What in my opinion is interesting about the ICOs is that they fund technologies that can add a lot of value to the market. So I do not see them entirely as a substitute for normal money, but as an interesting way of funding technological improvements. There are thousands of companies listed in the stock exchanges, and no one says that there should be no more because there is not enough demand: the companies make IPOs because they need the funding to grow, quite similarly to the ICOs.
I like to buy shares of companies, and now the ICOs offer me a totally new way to get on board on exciting projects at its initial stages: it only takes one success to bring back the value invested in several ICOs, just as usually it only takes a wonderful increase in value of a stock to bring back what I invested in several companies. For example, the price increase in TSLA made up for the stagnation in the past few months of other stocks. So I am optimistic about the ICOs since we are fueling the future. =)

Nailing it here : ) Cryptocurrencies and Decentralization are so radically important and relevant, it's difficult to contextualize in any one article. It's the infinite battle between those with money and power against those who seek freedom from oppression. The pendulum has swung Waaaay to far towards centralized control, and it's so encouraging to see the entrepreneurial spirit of the 99% rise up through crypto. Good point of view @cryptotequila but the only one issue with ICO's is the bad reputation cause some scammers on dutty and some accusations of drug money laundering in a few coins, actually i'm trading some crypto's and minning too, keeping mind on "We are creators of our own future"

Yes, due diligence is paramount. We should read well the whitepapers. I believe that wonderful ideas will seek financing through ICOs, and I am very interested in carefully select those that are the most solid and invest there. After all, that is the very essence of exponential possibilities, one moonshot makes it worth the whole investment. I am optimistic about that, but of course very careful, and a thorough reader and analyst in my investment choices. Thank you for your comment! =)
