The first thing is that miners are also earning through the fees they collect.
The second thing is that if miners stopped mining entirely, there would be no transactions in bitcoin. Therefore, bitcoin would lose his purpose and value. Miners will always be in profit with bitcoin. Sometimes more and sometimes less.
