CANDIDATE FOR THE PRESIDENCY OF BRAZIL CONSIDERS THAT BITCOIN COULD BE A METHOD OF LEGAL PAYMENT

João Amoêdo, candidate for the presidency of Brazil for the New Party, has expressed that a cryptocurrency such as bitcoin can be used as a method of payment in the country, as long as there is a regulation that determines its use.

The information was presented in an interview that the candidate granted to a local media in recent days. In Amoédo's opinion, the Bitcoin cryptocurrency should receive the same regulatory treatment as a fiduciary currency like the dollar, which could be a very controversial issue for the bitcoiner community.

Currently, there is no legal framework to regulate the use of cryptoactives in Brazil, despite the debates that have taken place in the parliament around blockchain technology. The presidential elections to which Amoêdo would be nominated are scheduled to be held in October, and their proposals could only be materialized if elected.

Amoêdo was very open to distributed accounting technology, considering that it could significantly reduce the bureaucracy in public institutions by integrating it in the real estate registry, authentication of documents and recognition of signatures. This position agrees with that adopted in the month of May.

Similarly, Amoêdo praised the advances in digital identity that have been thanks to the blockchain, as well as its application in the supply chain, data transparency and voting systems.

Since 2015, in Brazil there is a conflict between the banks and the exchange houses in the country, which has led to the closure of some bank accounts belonging to the exchange platforms and the subsequent reactivation of some of those blocked accounts, such as It has been happening this year in Chile. Regarding this conflict, the candidate for the presidency of Brazil affirmed not having a specific position. In fact, Amoêdo considers that the more competition there is in the market, the better.
