Is anyone out there able to guide me through claiming my bitcoin cash which I understand I have if I held bitcoin at the beginning of August?

Just make sure to not install the bitcoin cash wallet on the same computer that you use to for your bitcoin wallet cause it mess up with the bitcoin wallet. I think it replaces it. So obviously you need a backup of your wallet before beginning any of this.
It consist of moving your BTC out to a new wallet first. Then accessing your BCH or BItcoin cash with the bitcoin cash wallet.
Move your BTC first so that the bitcoin cash wallet can't access your BTC in anyway.
You might also look for other sources about this to make sure about what you are doing.

I had my bitcoin in blockchain.info but I moved it a few weeks ago to a hardware wallet. Will it will be at blockchain.info?

The fork happened on August 1. So your Bitcoin cash will be in your wallet where they were on August 1.
I don't know if you can access your private keys on blockchain.info. I think so. But you'll have to have access to your private keys.
Again, this will be the same pattern. You will first move your BTC into a new wallet. Then your Bitcoin Cash will have remain in the old wallet. You will download the Bitcoin Cash wallet and there will be a way to enter your wallet through there. I never used blockchain.info.

OMG, good luck with that one. I spent all day yesterday trying to do similar. My brain just turns into white noise. I think a few Steemers should get together and start a little consultancy to help in situations like this. I don't have young people around to ask stupid questions to so I would have been more than happy to offer a few steem or micro bitcoins to someone to help me find my missing crypto before BCH went even more through the roof. I suppose security is the issue....good luck with that.

Where do you have your Bitcoin?
I have my little bitty Bitcoin in Blockchain.info. My BitcoinCash suddenly popped up there a few weeks ago without me having to do anything.
It was accompanied by a message asking me if I wanted to convert it to Bitcoin.
Luckily, after today's big changes, I never got round to do anything with it so it is still sitting there now worth a good bit more than it was before.

I had a few dollars of Bitcoin on Eobot and they allocated me some Bitcoin Cash that is appreciating nicely. It's not enough to be worth cashing out. I also have a Bitcoin Core wallet locally, but there's very little in that. I guess I should have some Cash related to that too. There's a comment on Luke's post that suggests how I could do that. I'll try it some time.
The problem with having small amounts of BTC anywhere is that the fees seem to make it non-viable to extract.

Is your bitcoin in an exchange? Hardware wallet? Papet wallet? In Bitconnect? Or what?
Once you have the facts... As much as you may dislike YouTube and Google on principle... The answer is out there. At the tip of your fingers.
