The world's fourth largest Bitcoin exchange ”Bithumb” in South Korea has been successfully attacked by hackers, according to media reports. The attackers were able to access the accounts of the users of the exchange. Via Bithumb accounts approximately 10 percent of all Bitcoin transactions and approximately 20 percent of the trading with Ether ( Ethereum ) were carried out.

South Korean media reports from account owners at Bithumb, whose accounts were plundered by a total of more than 900,000 euros. The bitcoins and ethers were stolen directly from the accounts of the attacked users. Overall, more than 30,000 Bithumb users and accounts were affected by the attack. The personal data have been stolen also. According to Bithumb the enterprise servers have not been attacked, just the computer of an employee. With the data, the attackers have been able to gain access to some accounts via phishing attacks.

Bithumb has announced that they intending to compensate the affected users financially. It is unclear, however, to what extent this will happen. The problem is the fact that in South Korea the liability for crypto currencies is not yet clear.

Those news seems to come on daily basis now. Us, the users, but more than that exchange platforms should read those news with extreme care. It's not only about our money, but also about their trust.

thanks @steem-buzz - I agree, I think many of us - at least me - have to think more about securing everything..
