Big Japanese Retailer Started To Accept Bitcoin Payments

in bitcoin •  7 years ago

While we are glued to our FUD spreading devices, smarter people are moving forward and do what must to be done: accept payments in Bitcoin. This time it's about a Japanese retailer, Yamada Denki, which announced in a press release a couple of days ago, that it will start a Bitcoin payment trial, in partnership with the exchange bitFlyer.

There are two physical stores involved in this trial, one of them being located in Shinjuku, a popular touristic area. The maximum settlement will be 300,000 YEN, or about $2,760 (meaning the total amount worth of Bitcoin you can use for one purchase per day). The trial already started this weekend so if you are in Tokyo these days and happen to pass by Shinjuku, you can give it a try.

This news comes after another major online e-commerce platform from South Korea, WeMakePrice, announced a similar test a couple of days ago.

It's also interesting to note the involvement of bitFlyer, which recently opened a presence in Europe, by opening a branch in Luxembourg.

Once again, mainstream adoption for crypto comes from Asia.

Fees have been steadily dropping over the past two weeks, as I've been tracking in my blog, and with the combined growth of the lightning network, the next while should (hopefully) show a period of adoption growth. No better time to accumulate Bitcoin than when the price is at a discount.

Smart people accept payments in BitShares Smart Coins like BitUSD and BitCNY. Bitcoin is too volatile as means to accept payments.

Any news about any country having stores accepting crypto is good news!

So, as always, Japan proves that it's the bee's knees. Can it get any cooler?

Japan makes around 40 percent of the world in trading bitcoin.
And yeah I do appreciate your steem.supply website, its indeed amazing coz I have been using this for long.
Already voted for you as a witness :)

This is great news! Now, if bitcoin would be consistently and cheaply working again more could jump onboard!
Thanks for sharing this one!

It was kinda surprising seeing this early adoption from Japan considering it's a conservative culture, but once they went in they went in fully. I imagine they will be leading the charge forward in crypto for some time to come as the West continues to dither over regulation and taxation issues.

Interesting to see this (counter?)development, though the fees are pretty high.
Hopefully we see wider adoption soon and bitcoin grow further in acceptance.

it certainly needs some kind of fire lighting under bitcoins backside that's for sure! what ya thinking about the lightning network progress?

I think this is very good and I expect this to be the basis of a new bull trend. But it's all speculation, obviously :)

Very exciting! I wish there were more places over here in North America where I could potentially use crypto currencies.

Despite how much I hate the coffee that Starbucks makes, it sounds like they're starting to consider accepting some kind of crypto. It'll be very interesting to see if such a huge mainstream player would get into this -- could be a huge boost to the validity of the cryptos in general.

If I could start buying coffee's w/ SBDs or LTC or something, I'd be pretty jacked up about it.

Article re: Starbucks

Does Rakuten, Japan's biggest e-commerce company, still accept bitcoin payments? They start early, right?

If japan is taking it as a payment watch out its going to moon again. I cant wait for the usa to start taking it as a payment for my rent and maybe bitcoin will stay on top as number one thanks for the information i did not know that about japan you got a new follower its me :)

This is great news as the price of bitcoin going for another bull run. Smart people take calculated risk.

Wonderful news! Now, if bitcoin would be consistently and cheaply working again.
Thanks for sharing this lovely post.Stay blessed

LN will definitely increase adoption of BTC as a payment option. Price volatility shouldn't matter. A retailer could easily partner with an exchange to convert to fiat upon receiving payments from customers.

It is not difficult to visualize that there is already a marked tendency regarding the use of this cryptocurrency; I have very little time knowing this world of cryptocurrencies; but, I am already convinced that I must follow that path. All this publications that you bring us, confirm it to me. Greetings.

Looks like more news like these are needed so that the FUD gets disappeared

bitcoin will be of no use until they don't solve the transactions speed issues
