5 small changes I've made, to make a big difference 🌍5️⃣steemCreated with Sketch.

Do some Good

I'd like to thanks to @cryptocurator's post inspired by @pennsif's recent drive to talk about the subject of the environment and sustainability. This is a subject that has always been a BIG issue to me (being a bit of a nature boy) and I've done my own version of '5 things' that are small but very important steps to take:

1 - Get a Keep Cup / reusable water bottle - A really easy win and an obvious one, but people still don't do this. It just takes time to make it a habit. It doesn't really matter who makes your water bottle or coffee Keep Cup, or what its made of, just re-use this bottle over and over, clean it and look after it and when it hits 'peak smell', think about getting a new one. Do everything you can to avoid buying bottled water. Hell, we can always enjoy a fresh coca-cola every now and again, but buying water that was bottled in Fiji in the UK is just beyond comprehension. The amount of take away coffee cups that are used everyday in London is abomnible, and most are touted as recyclable but aren't. Instead of focusing on recycling, focus on not using them in the first place.

Source - Get a keep Cup, your favourite Barista may sell you one!

2 - Walk more, peddle more, rev less - Walking is good for your health, well being and reduces the need to burn 'baby dinosaurs' as petrol heads like to say. Get a bike, burn some calories and feel better about moving all the muscles in your body! When it rains, just use your car and feel good that you don't when the sun is shining 🌞 🌞 🌞

3 - Make others aware of their actions (but don't preach)
- Engage with friends and family about environmental issues. It's great to share your experience and concerns. Showing your passion for trying to correct the global climate changes / species decline / plastic pollution etc is better than doing absolutely nothing about it and just negatively complaining. Lots of folks out there see the problem but haven't started to do anything about it yet, we can give them a nudge! P.S. if you have children, tell them, they are like sponges that want to absorb you wise environmental ways.

4 - Do not buy cheap (clothes, food - almost anything)
- Sports Direct (a rock bottom price UK retailer) are not that cheap because they care about their customers. These types of retailers are cheap because somewhere in the chain they are ripping someone off, most likely the little man, and in great volumes. This is mass consumerism and this kind of trade is also ripping off our ecosystem. Not all expensive clothes are good in this way, but taking a more considered approach to your clothing and equipment is a good thing. Think about your purchases and purchase what you need. Buy ethical if you can afford it, or think of ethical clothing or goods as 'special' purchases.

5 - Give up Beef (or other meats if you like) - People, particularly 'the mans man' talk about how amazing a big, fat, juicy, BLEEDING steak is. Fair enough. For me I've rarely eaten a good steak and its always given me a stomach ache. Furthermore, cows fart a lot and produce excessive amounts of methane that is a Greenhouse Gas. If we are actually going to ever be f****** serious about climate change, which is now gaining momentum with the Extinction Rebellion and Greta Thunberg, we MUST stop eating so many burgers, purely for our short term pleasure. This is a huge one for me as I love a good hamburger, I remember those days, but I've not missed beef and the harrowing indigestion at all. Also, cows are pretty animals, just like dogs and cats right, so why eat them?

In conclusion
- Its good to be aware and realise that what you do has an impact elsewhere, you generally can't do much but you can do something. Small steps translate into big actions.

Great life changing tips! I agree with the majority of them But i cant give up my meat you mention that cows are adorable just like a cat or dog that is true, cows are hard to take care of and they eat a LOT I have 2 of them and they are not dairy cows without intention of eating them they would be a complete waste of money, time and effort. Well anyways GREAT post it defiantly made me think of my current situation. thanks @dronegraphica .... OH by the way I am thinking about getting a mavic air drone in the future would that be a good drone to start with in your opinion?

Haha, I wouldn't keep cows as pets, helll no I can imagine the appetite and cost of them! Mass meat market though is bad for water use, land use, so much stuff. Mavic air is a good looking drone, the quality of them looks super for something of that size! Not sure about video but image quality is great. You could watch some reviews or see some sample images πŸ‘Œ

I'm really glad I came accross your post! Always happy to see people spreading tips on how to be more environmentally friendly. I've been practicing the "easier ones" like always having a reusable cup and utensils but I have to say I only recently came across the fast fashion culture as well as the environmental impact of consuming beef. Have you seen The True Cost documentary on Netflix?

Hey @nortjenn! Thanks for the comment. Glad you liked what I had to say. There is an environmental impact to everything we do, some ar just worse than others. For me, beef is that. I haven't seen that documentary. I'll have a look for it though!

Great addition of five here: happy to concur with all of these. I can make some improvements and I’m going to buy a travel still water bottle to go with my travel coffee mug next....

I totally support you on this. well, perhaps, except #5. anyway I cant afford cow's meat, even pigs meat is too expensive for me. and I cant use my car on rainy days only - as I dont have car. I try to use a raincoat together with my bike, or walk by foot.

also: you forgot to mention separate garbage collection. take it into consideration, it does matter a lot.

ps. for the last 2-3 years I've collected and utilized 2900 kg of waster paper. (at some point I will make a post about it -- last time I took some pics). all the best!
