Value is not an objective thing. The value of anything, be it a currency, or some widely traded commodity, or a pile of leaves, is, simply, whatever the person looking at it is willing to give up in order to obtain it. This is, and has always been true. Value is entirely a measurement of what an individual will sacrifice in order to obtain something they 'value'.
