This event is part of a series of workshops and round tables organized by the Observatory with the purpose of educating the public and offering guidance on the emerging ecosystem of the block chain and cryptocurrencies. To this end, you even have an online forum for discussions on your website.

The launch of the Blockchain Observatory and Forum, last February, represents a joint initiative of the European Commission and the European Parliament, in order to encourage debate, in addition to serving to accelerate its investment plan of 300 million euros. euros in the blockchain technology for the year 2020. For this purpose it is dedicated to collecting information, analyzing trends and exploring the socio-economic potential of the new technology.

It is worth noting that one of the aspects that is currently under discussion in the events organized by this European body - most of them uploaded to YouTube - has to do with the General Regulation of Data Protection Act (GDPR). , which entered into force on May 25 in the countries of the European Union. The implications of this new regulation in the handling of data within the blockchain networks, is a concern for companies that use this technology in the European continent.

In this same order of ideas, the European Parliament on April 19 approved an amendment to the law on the prevention of money laundering and financing of terrorism, which makes the identification of users of prepaid cards financed through cryptocurrencies mandatory, eliminating the anonymity in these services.

For this month of June the European Parliament is expected to approve a motion for a resolution on the possible regulations, applications and uses of the blockchain technology, based on a document prepared by the Committee of Industry, Research and Energy of the Parliament, which it focuses mainly on blockchain technology and its advantages, mentioning very little cryptocurrencies.
