Bitcoin has reached a new historical record, surpassing the $3,000. Thus, the total value of all bitcoins in circulation is estimated at over $50 billion.
The exchange rate of the most well-known cryptographic currency has recently risen over the $3,000 bar, informs the BBC. According to Coindesk Bitcoin Price Index, the currency exchange rate reached $3398.57 per piece.
Previously, the currency was never valued at more than $3,000, the previous maximum being $500 lower.
The strong increase followed the division of the Bitcoins into two block chains last week. Thus, since 1 August, two currencies co-exist: the "classic" Bitcoin (BTC) and the new Bitcoin Cash (BCC or BCH).
The block chain is a transparent, secure and functioning shared database without a central control organ. By extension, a blockchain is a database that contains the history of all the exchanges that have been made between its users since it was created.
