Bill Gates is one of the most famous entrepreneurs of our era. Bill Gates has been crowned the “richest man in the world” 16 times out of the last 21 years. Bill Gates was born on the 28th of October 1955 in Seattle, Washington in a well-educated family of entrepreneurs. Bill Gates started his journey to success at a very young age where he displayed a strong passion for computer programming by spending the majority of his free time creating programs on the teletype terminal computer his school had donated. Bill Gates is the Co-founder of the world’s largest PC software company Microsoft and which is why Bill Gates is considered one of the defining figures of the personal computer revolution. Bill Gates had a love and aptitude for computer science and entered Harvard in 1973, although despite his love for his subject he would rather spend his time playing poker or games than to actually attend most of his classes. However Bill Gates has been criticized for his business tactics, which have been considered anti-competitive, which has resulted in some cases being upheld by a numerous amount of court rulings. During Bill Gates career he held a number of positions such as chairman of Microsoft, CEO and chief software architect, which resulted in Bill Gates being the largest individual shareholder until May 2014. Bill Gates saw the opportunity to start up his own computer software company when the release of the MITS Altair 8800 which was based on the Intel 8080 CPU, which resulted in Bill Gates remaining contact with Paul Allen. This resulted in Bill Gates taking a big risk and dropping out of school as he was so passionate to start a company, and this ambition was emitted from him which his parents recognised and supported him. As soon as Microsoft was founded in 1975 till 2006, Bill gates main responsibility was to be in charge of the company’s product strategy. He aggressively broadened the company's range of products, and wherever Microsoft achieved a dominant position he vigorously defended it. Bill Gates role at Microsoft for most of its history was primarily a management and executive role. However, he was an active software developer in the early years, particularly on the company's programming language products. He has not officially been on a development team since working on the TRS-80 Model 100, but Bill Gates wrote code as late as 1989 that shipped in the company's products. Microsoft launched its first retail version of Microsoft Windows on November 20, 1985, and in August, the company struck a deal with IBM to develop a separate operating system called OS/2. Although the two companies successfully developed the first version of the new system, mounting creative differences caused the partnership to deteriorate.
