  1. The Shelley testnet has made its network debut after several months of developments. Tim Harrison, Communications Director at IOHK told that the networked testnet phase allows IOHK to test the behaviour of an Ouroboros-based decentralized network before making changes to mainnet. The current Cardano mainnet operates on a federated model, with all nodes in the network controlled by the Cardano Foundation, IOHK or EMURGO. However, the main goal is to have a network that is completely run by the community.

  2. The House of Representatives passed legislation calling for FinCEN to study its use of ā€œinnovative technologiesā€ ā€” including blockchain. ā€œThe Director of the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (ā€œFinCENā€) shall carry out a study onā€¦ whether AI, digital identity technologies, blockchain technologies, and other innovative technologies can be further leveraged to make FinCENā€™s data analysis more efficient and effective,ā€ the bill reads.

  3. Chinese crypto mining hardware giant Bitmain to launch its World Digital Mining Map (WDMM) will be the first global network to connect mining hardware owners with mining farms who will provide the available power resources to host them for a fee. In turn, network members will get access to a number of personalized services from Bitmain, including assistance with mining farm design, connections to foreign clients to host, and support with operations, purchasing, and construction.

  4. Morgan Creek Digital co-founder, Anthony Pompliano, said that he would tokenize the dollar immediately if he was the US government. This is the only way that it might retain its status as a world reserve currency, he suggested. However, he still thinks that people will ultimately choose bitcoin, as a currency which the government canā€™t control. The future would not be a competition between digital and non-digital, but between different monetary policies.

  5. Ripple has made its first move towards building decentralized finance (DeFi) products based on XRP. With its acquisition of decentralized payments platform Logos Network, Rippleā€™s investment arm, Xpring, will add nine New York-based engineers. The Logos acqui-hires will now help Ripple build XRP derivatives, loans, futures and forwards, said Ethan Beard, senior vice president of Xpring. Beard hopes the financial institutions will be interested in XRP-based DeFi products.

  6. Dinwiddie had announced earlier this week that he planned to go public with token offered by his company DREAM Fan Shares that would enable investors to essentially buy into Dinwiddieā€™s three-year, $34.4 million N.B.A. contract. However, The NBA told Brooklyn Nets player Spencer Dinwiddie on Friday that he will not be permitted by the league to tokenize his contract. NBA told ā€˜no player shall assign or otherwise transfer to any third party his right to receive compensation from the team under his uniform player contract.ā€™ā€

  7. Technical analysts anticipate Bitcoinā€™s price to recover in the short term in a relief rally following a minor rebound to $8,200. There are plenty of times when the price history was at $7,600, which is likely to hold as a level of strong support for traders in the upcoming days. Technical analysts remain divided on the Bitcoin price trend and the rest of the crypto market, but most generally agree that there is strong demand to buy BTC in the mid-$6,000 to $7,000 region.

  8. Googleā€™s quantum computer may not yet threaten Bitcoinā€™s cryptography, but quantum-resistant blockchains are getting ready just in case. David Chaum, known as the ā€œgodfather of crypto" for inventing the anonymous payment system e-cash in the 1980s, is pushing full steam ahead with Praxxis, a blockchain that uses quantum-resistant signatures while protecting users from any leaked metadata, he claims.

  9. Major cryptocurrency exchange Binance has launched a dedicated staking platform. The new service will enable Binance users to deposit their token holdings and earn staking rewards, but without having to set up their own nodes to fulfill minimum staking amounts and/or time lengths. Users will receive monthly distributions for holding the following altcoins: NEO (NEO/GAS), Ontology (ONT/ONG), VeChain (VEN/VTHO), Stellar (XLM), Komodo (KMD), Algorand (ALGO), Qtum (QTUM) and Stratis (STRAT).

  10. Ethereum transaction fees are back on the rise and they're gaining parity with those of bitcoin. The reason for a surge in ethereum transaction fees has been the recent increase in trading activity surrounding dollar-pegged stablecoin Tether (USDT). According to Tetherā€™s official website, there is roughly $2 billion worth of USDT currently issued on the ethereum platform. In December of last year, there was only a reported $60 million.

  11. Honeyminer, a mining startup focused on CPU and GPU mining, has been acquired by Core Scientific, a blockchain and artificial intelligence software provider.
