How to use coinbase
The best gateway I know of into the crytosphere is a website/app call coinbase. (Coinbase.com)
What is coinbase and why am i suggesting you use it? Coinbase is a cryptocurrency exchange. Or simply put: a website/app where you use your fiat currency (US dollar, Euro, GBP, or whatever your local currency is) to buy crypto. This is what makes it special, it is the best way I know to change your cash into crypto. On CB (coinbase) you can buy bitcoin (BTC), ethereum (ETH), litecoin (LTC), and as of earlier this week Bcash (bitcoin cash BCH). More currencies will likely be added in 2018 and beyond, but this is what you can buy for now.
Go to coinbase.com or download the coinbase app on your phone. I find either to be very user friendly and intuitive. Once you’ve downloaded coinbase you need to create an account. Simply follow the instructions given to you on the site or app. You may feel that they are asking for a lot of personal information. This is because CB is very much a real exchange and needs to verify you as a real person. Think about it like opening up a bank account. On this note make sure you verify your account as well. This enables you to purchase more crypto on cb, move more, is needed to utilize the instant purchase aspect
Now you can buy with your linked bank account or a credit/debit card. The main difference is that the bank account has a slightly lower fee but the crypto won't be in your account for a week or so. This can be frustrating, but is a perfectly sound way of buying if you don't need the coins instantly. To buy instantly you use a linked credit card and you get your crypto immediately, but pay a higher fee.
To buy: click the buy sell tab, then make sure you're set to buy, then select the currency you desire, enter in the amount in USD (or your native currency) you want to purchase, and click buy! Easy as that. BTW! I don’t recommend you sell you crypto back to cash on the actual coinbase app or site. For this I use theri sister exchange called GDAX. Info on GDAX to follow!
Now about the fees: what can I say? Coinbase employees have to eat too right? But ya super annoying….. maybe one day they’ll be less as more and more user join, but for now it's the best of what's around.
Once you receive your crypto you can leave it on the exchange or send to a separate wallet. I highly recommend you send it to a separate wallet such as a nano ledger, trezor, or even just on web wallet. My how to use crypto wallets will be linked here soon, for now leaving it on CB (coinbase) is fine but follow up with a wallet asap.
I will be adding a video and blog post about how to buy cryptos that are not on coinbase soon, but know that the first step to that is converting whatever fiat you hold into a crypto like bitcoin first, as most crypto currencies are purchased with bitcoin.
Love you guys, hope you found this helpful!
