The New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) tweeted that it had granted a BitLicense to Cottonwood Vending LLC, a company which provides Bitcoin ATM services. After receiving strong criticism from crypto-industry players, NYDFS accelerated its distribution of virtual currency licenses and Cottonwood Vending represents the third BitLicense awarded in the first month of 2019 alone. Bitcoin ATMs are growing in popularity throughout America and money exchanger, Coinstar, recently announced that will would also enable crypto purchases in a number of states. Currently, Coinstar customers can purchase Bitcoin in California, Texas, and Washington. Cottonwood Vending LLC claims to be the “largest [New York] Bitcoin ATM network.”
