Cryptocurrencies are absolutely amazing.
Having your money in a decentralised store where the state cannot regulate or monitor imposing regulations on you is the way forward.
The only fear I have is that we have also seen the SECs attempt to get some sort of control in the sector by administering new ICOs in the blockchain.

I don't see it at all. There is no bank service that I can think of that I wouldn't pay money to avoid.
Loans? So much easier to go with crowdsourcing.
Money transfers? already on the blockchain
Escrow? sorta on the blockchain / will be solid soon.
Investment service? Do you still have any trust in a bank?
Home loans? This will be the biggest shift. As in house prices will fall to $0.
ATM? Right up till the time bitcoin breaks the physical/electronic barrier

I'll second that! @hilarski - I certainly hope that "Bitcoin will change the world", like I'm sure most of us here, the big question is which version of Bitcoin is it going to be?! @oaldamster believes at least one of them will continue to remain strong - in the recent post which I resteemed (https://steemit.com/bitcoin/@oaldamster/the-bitcoin-run).
However, I watched @boxmining 's recent video where he expresses uncertainty over the future of Bitcoin due to the fork's inherent complexity. Having several versions of Bitcoin makes understanding - and investing in BTC more complex for potential new investors coming to join the party.
I'm really not sure to be honest, although I pray that BTC in some form continues to thrive since I just made a huge investment in it (which I wrote about here > https://steemit.com/bitcoin/@jobsande/woah-bitcoin-gaining-ground-lesson-1-never-try-to-time-the-market).

It'll get corrupted, just give it time. The big fiat holders aren't going to allow cryptocurrency to conquer them, it's just not going to happen. Then the crypto people will have to allow the fiat people to take what they want.
Corruption always prevails, always. Even Heaven itself was rocked by corruption; messed things up for everybody.
I've been into crypto currency since Feb 2017. I turned $320 into over $1000, only to have it ripped off by BitcoinsBrain, and there is nothing I can do. Almost got ripped off by FexFund, but had an intuition and withdrew just hours before they folded.
The more I get into it, the more BS I encounter. I've download several dozen wallets, both in Windows & Linux; only a hand full of the wallets even work. And to make matters worse, many wallets work differently; SEND doesn't always mean send and RECEIVE doesn't always mean receive; it's frickin ridiculous.
Wait and see, I bet most of the exchanges claim to get hacked the first few days of August; then they can say "SORRY" to all the crypto users who didn't get to upgrade their BTC to BCC.
