Developers of Bitcoin Gold, an altcoin containing the history of the Bitcoin blockchain, chose block 491407 as a starting point for their new branch. This block will probably be produced on Tuesday, October 24 [1], but the official site remains frozen on October 25. Since the replay attack mechanism has not yet been released, however, few platforms are committed to supporting the BTG today:
"We have not made any official announcement that would suggest that we support or support a future fork of Bitcoin. If we feel the need, we will publish a statement in our newsletter, our blog and our Twitter account. If you want to make sure you have access to the "corners" of the fork, please remove your bitcoins and keep your own private keys. - Translation of a message from Kraken's assistance to a bitcoin.com reader.
No more commitment on the side of Paymium: "Paymium is currently completing a major project: the ability for our exchange platform to manage multiple cybermonnaies, especially altcoins from hard fork, without creating vulnerabilities and keeping a sound accounting basis. This cautious roadmap requires a little patience but remains the best guarantee of sustainability for our exchange. "
Note the existence of some platforms "100% crypto" more or less reliable (eg yobit.net), which announce that it will be possible to exchange BTG against BTC before the fork. However, these are only "virtual" exchanges and users will have to wait for the BTG branch to actually start in order to withdraw their funds.
For its part, Ledger could integrate BTG ... provided, it is said, that the code is available and that the protection system against replay attacks is defined. Anyway your BTG should be recoverable in one way or another with a hardware wallet since the users of these devices remain masters of their private keys.
If you have bitcoins on a foreign exchange platform and want to get the equivalent of Bitcoin Gold, it is recommended that you withdraw your funds before October 24th and send them to addresses where you have the private keys.
