There was so much dodgy stuff going on with tether towards the end of last year. Even once people had raised the alarm about what they were doing, they continued to "print" more tether and release it to prop up the bitcoin price. I made the mistake of hodling through the entire pump and not selling. My loss I guess. However, I do think that it will still recover a fair bit this year.

Interesting morning read here @gholsa https://www.newsbtc.com/2018/06/16/odd-coincidences-bitcoins-price-mirrors-historical-technical-analysis/
Released a little during the crazy hike, holding the little I have since I really feel that this change in finance is a very good move, actually long overdue!

I read this post and felt touched because those days when the Bitcoin price increased to great extent, we also had to face demonetisation in our country. I had invested 2 BTC in one program and all of a sudden, it started falling down to remain only ashes. I was heartbroken to see my 2 BTC gone and price of BTC increasing so high that I could have bought my owned house here in India when BTC hiked. As a result, I felt so painful because I suffered extremely in various ways after that because my earnings almost became zero because many Bitcoin related programs had closed by this time due to extreme hike in the price. Now, the government is also scared to see the increased price and has banned BTC to INR transactions. But, now, after understanding that it seemed to be a hype, I can give another chance to my life forgetting the 2 Bitcoins. So, thanks for sharing, if it was hype that time, then maybe, I do not have to wait for the increase of the BTC price again. The world of money is like this, hypes, and manipulations, but God's Grace remains forever. In so much of pain, God never let me remain hungry. He fed me somehow through friends and family. The manipulation of the world may cease one day, but His Amazing Grace will not cease feeding me and giving me peace.

Too many lost during this period due to not being informed enough, never buy when high, wait for prices to come down. Listen and watch what is happening in the markets, this will not be the first nor the last time something like this happens.
Thank you for sharing @puregrace greedy people do not think about how much they are able to hurt people in regions that are already struggling.

Bitcoin price is manipulated so badly and the same is happening with every cryptocurrency. The one who cam hold and know to buy in dip survieves.

Small crypto I do think a lot of research before investing is required, then hold and watch, roller coaster rides have only started with new technology.

Hi @joanstewart! I think that BTC eventhough alongside with the rest of the Cryptocurrencies is not at the best right now, it is a matter of another few months before the prices go up. There might be kind of speculations by the end of 2017, but the bright future is just ahead. There are some predictions it will hit 100 000 $ by the end of 2019, beginning of 2020, and I really think it is for sure to happen.
With regards,
Yani

Hello Yani, yes I am a firm believer BTC will bounce back over the next couple of years, there are cryptocurrencies that are offering something worthwhile to the world worth looking into.
Keep supporting those I trust and know for now, time will reveal which will get support and which will fall away.

For every winner there is a loser, in any market. There were a TON of losers during the spike, but in truth, ONLY if you cashed out lower than you bought. I didn't buy anything then, but did have an awesome run at Nicehash while it lasted. Now I'm back to mining SUP full time.
That market run up had FOMO all over it. It is encouraging though as it shows there is a demand for coin in general.

Never been one to buy and sell on a whim @artisane after researching, normally invest a little and wait and watch, yes I am a supporter of SUP as well and have been for some time, great community!

Actually we never can tell if the price was manipulated or not but let it be known that most people in the cryptocurrency space today are on board because they got informed about the profit in the system and how they can generate such profits.
But unfortunately times changed and things might seem negative to a lot of newbies

Truth will always come out eventually, when blockchain technology is being investigated as a way forward for FinTech I can see many investigations taking place. Sadly many got caught in a web of deceit at the time @airsoftman

Fear of missing out is a powerful emotion, and while past behavior can't predict future behavior, it is tempting to hope and bank on it happening at least one more time... it's quite the burn wound though when it comes crashing down

Technology is holding, problem is people creating havoc, I see no reason why those who bought, if patient, won't reap the rewards eventually @motordrive

Sure is a game of patience, but then gold and silver do the same, up's and down's.

Shocking! I agree with the approach that says, 'If it sounds too good to be true, it is too good to be true.'
I do not think cryptocurrencies as a concept is very different from an economy based on the value of gold (a metal with little or no practical use) and the activity within an economy (the more activity the greater the value). The important difference is the decentralization but we may have an Animal Farm situation, with old patterns repeating, just with new names and faces.

The concern for me is with corporate, then governments all wanting their own blockchain technology, a few good systems should be developed first in an open market system.
White collared always pump and dump destroying, to manipulate, it has happened over the ages. When Bitcoin Futures was being spoken of I started feeling uncomfortable with certain aspects discussed at the time, then Tether arrived making more waves, greed is not what is called for!

I am not in BTC, although I have several wallets for it now, thanks to steemit. Other than steemit, I was on the sidelines for this event. I have come to find out that most of these currencies are held by few people at the top and then a smaller amount is held by the little people. This uneven situation seems to be even worse (percentage-wise) than what is present in fiat currencies.
I believe that nothing is real in the numbers we see and will not be unless mass adoption comes in to dilute the whales who can manipulate the markets. But when these large swings are common, the masses will not join in and you cannot really blame them.
Some of the people I know from steemit are in countries where they can spend crypto easily in their local businesses. This is what I think needs to happen worldwide, and I hope I get to see it.

Fundamentally meant to assist growth into areas, creating un-banked an easier method of transacting (so they said), easier over border transactions cutting down costs.
We have one BTC ATM that I know of where I live, no good when it is hundreds of kilometers away, at least it is a start.
Mass adoption in new FinTech will take a long time (my opinion).
Being minnows in Steemit, it is only by supporting each other, we will slowly grow, what I do enjoy here is copying others work is strictly forbidden, compared to Tsu where people could purchase images and load, by sending huge quantity of images into the system very quickly grew their earnings, nothing new being created (often wondered, where did creativity go?).

lol - I agree. Ah! tsu - those were the days.
"creating un-banked an easier method of transacting" This is a huge niche if someone wants to be honest and take the lead.

I actually asked about three years ago when a huge project launch was happening into Africa, actually got a reply that they were not too sure how it would go but would keep contact, never heard again.
Education is needed, once there is a good platform working internationally it will be worth taking on.
Current greed, the inevitable roller coaster ride I would never try to sell someone on an idea when most are poverty stricken under taxation and other laws, that is why @kryptonia is ideal to suit everyone, no need to outlay huge sums of money to get started.

Yes, and same for steemit. If I had to invest money instead of earning and spending it - I would not be here.

I found it very alarming when cryptos rose and fell in succession, I know very little about it, rely on my son to inform me. He always says don't run when it drops.
Not nice when greed causes people to manipulate cryptos and even money markets! Thank you for the interesting post @joanstewart :)

interesting, your post has led me to reflect and see things differently. We hope that this is cleared and allows the stability of the cryptocurrencies as directed by some other than bitcoin

Bought NEO at 100 bucks :D was fucking happy to be part of it and I am still happy even if the price charts broke ma heart in the meantime. I was aware of manipulation at that time but I only now slowly start to care about forseeing the prices. I am here for the longterm thus hopefully I will be in the profit somewhen :)

Most have some or other small investments, all in a learning process @nopenotagain great to hear you are happy. Truth always comes out in the end, now we will be more aware of pumps and dumps, even though no one could have foreseen it happening on this scale.

Just a typical bubble really imo. If you look up the dot com bubble the trend is so similar, which is why in 1-3 years I think it will be on a sharp rise again

I got into Bitcoin early and watched the slow rise. Then came the end of 2017. I knew something was not right and hype was driving people to buy at high prices without reason. Then came the inevitable fall. I am afraid there is still a large amount of hype with all crypto and people will lose so much money that they will turn against it in the future.
