Bitcoin dominance hits 50%

in bitcoin •  7 years ago

For the first time in a while Bitcoin accounts for over half of the entire cryptocurrency markets, again.

It is interesting because it's dominance level is rising while the price of bitcoin is falling pretty quickly, it's just not falling quite as quickly as the rest of the altcoin markets.

It's a rough time to be a cryptocurrency investor, it's just not quite as rough if you own bitcoin.

Just a repeat of history.

Bitcoin dominance is measured by the market cap of each coin. Bitcoin has 50% of the market cap now because crypto investors flee to Bitcoin as a safety play or "risk off." This doesn't necessarily mean new money is coming in.

Of course. In the current market it means money is leaving altcoins at a faster rate than it is leaving bitcoin.

Bitcoin is attractive at this point if you are entering an accumulation phase of your investment portfolio. Alts are looking rather risky IMO.

Agreed.

Nice

Not really, we need prices to be increasing.
