Bitcoin and importantly its blockchain, we believe could be a real game changer. This is potentially the start of a revolution in finance, bringing with it new opportunities in peer-to-peer, decentralised, anonymous (to a point) exchange and verification, without the need for a third party (i.e. banks).
The potential of Bitcoin, the already numerous other digital currencies, and other applications for blockchain away from finance is staggering. It’s an exciting move for us that we hope will stimulate debate, challenge the current system and help level the financial playing field globally.
Shambala’s Adventures in Utopia have always involved a continuous search for alternative models of community and society: the positive, the purposeful and the fundamentally better.
We are not suggesting that Bitcoin = Utopia, nor is it perfect, but we do feel digital currencies are an opportunity. They are a chance to take back more control over our means of exchange, increase privacy and to achieve social mobility for the unbanked in the world.
They’re an opportunity to engage in a new form of global economic citizenship and debate, and to redress the balance of power, which for the last few hundred years has been underpinned by banks, governments and the mega rich.
If you bought tickets through our website this year, you probably noticed that you can now pay for your Shambala tickets in Bitcoin, the world’s first digital currency. Shambala is the first UK festival to offer this option.
