There really isn't a good substitute for bitcoin.
There is literally bitcoin and then everything else.

Bitcoin cash, bitcoin sv, bitcoin gold, bitcoin diamon, eth, ltc etc etc etc, none of them are the real thing.
No other cryptocurrency has managed to fix what is "broken" in Bitcoin. Each cryptocurrency tries to have own "use case" instead of focusing the core reason why cryptocurrencies exist, to replace FIAT currencies completely...

Yea I don't see bitcoin as a currency, I see it as a store of value that is outside government control. Though in a pinch, it can be used as a currency better than current alternatives such as gold, real estate, collectibles etc.

Bitcoin can be used as a currency when transferring larger amounts, but certain altcoins are better with smaller amounts... Dogecoin is still usable for small transfers, even if Elon Musk likes to play pump and dump games with it...
