Our mission at Edgecoin is to decentralize and thereby disrupt education. By offering blockchain as a service in the academic and educational sector we are aiming to put control back into the hands of users and educators. We are proud to announce today that we will be integrating Edgecoin with the Origin Protocol to accomplish those goals.

Origin Protocol enables both traditional marketplaces and fractional-use or sharing economy marketplaces (like short-term rentals, spare sharing and ride sharing) to function in a completely distributed way using Ethereum and IPFS. We are excited to be building on the Origin Platform and collaborating with the highly talented Origin development team, which is based in San Francisco. Origin is a highly pedigreed company — they are backed by Pantera Capital, working with ConsenSys, and the founders have a long track record of success.

Partnering with Origin and their development team will allow us to get to markets faster and the shared network effects of being an Origin partner will make user acquisition and adoption easier. We’re very much looking forward to tackling the complex technology and product challenges in achieving our vision.

Together, we will build a more fair, cost-efficient, safe, immutable and censorship-resistant academic world.

“Edgecoin is a great example of a project that is trying to create a more fair and open marketplace and platforms for academics and the educational world. We are very excited that Edgecoin has decided to build on the Origin Platform and we look forward to collaborating with Edgecoin and their team.”

— Josh Fraser, Co-Founder, Origin Protocol.

“Origin is an amazing partner that is building the go-to platform on blockchain. The Origin Protocol will change many variables in our daily lives and we are proud to partner with Origin. This will help us tremendously to build academic services on the blockchain and provide platforms for future partners such as universities.”

— Kambiz Djafari, Co-Founder, Edgecoin

Big things are coming and we will keep you updated about our collaboration with Origin in the coming months!

I really like the idea of the origin protocol. But I have one fundamental question. How are the developers paid? Ok in the beginning you can make an ICO and raise some money to build a first version. But how are the devs still willing to add new features to the platform. I see the point that the value of their token rises if the plattform attracts more people. But I don‘t see that as a long term sustainable business plan. Or can you explain me how it should work? Wouldn‘t it be easier to have a 5% fee on each booking which is then spread among all token holders and the devs initially allocate for example 20% of all tokens?
