Tipping With Bitcoin

in bitcoin •  8 years ago

I refer to @neopatriarch's "Is there any room for Changetip on Steemit?" article on steemit a while ago, and find the concept of ChangeTip rather interesting- Sending cents across the globe as tips where the fees to send cents simply does not make sense.

To tip, user can tip another with any gif of choice:-

choosing an amount pre-determined by the user himself.

To receive a tip, publish your tip.me URL so that others will know where to go to.

Disqus, Facebook, Github, Google+, Reddit, Stocktwits, Soundcloud, Slack, Tipworthy, Tumblr, Twitch, Twitter, Wordpress and YouTube are ChangeTip-friendly.

Tipping is currently free, BTC deposits are free, withdrawal of bitcoin and USD withdrawals (but bank charges are payable) are currently waived.

So, if you trust it enough, you can essentially use that as a free BTC wallet.

I guess right now, the main problem is the lack of ChangeTip users.

I have somehow forgotten completely about ChangeTip, I used it frequently for a while and I probably still have balance there.

The two big things with ChangeTip is:

  • one can very easily transfer money i.e. in a reddit discussion or in a github comment (more social networks are supported). I.e., I can tip someone for sending me a pull request, just by adding some few words to the comment I'm already writing while merging it. Time is valuable, management and micro management steals time, same with context switches. Switch the browser tab, and it's easy not to find the way back again.
  • it's a nice way to push someone into the bitcoin economy; usually the receiver had the choice between receiving the tip in bitcoins or forget about it.

Agree fully. As with many useful inventions (steemit inclusive), users and usage are keys to getting the momentum to start. Imagine where BTC would be today if no one uses it... Thanks for sharing.
