We are all potential targets for thieves, trolls, and scammers....
I have been watching as I see "marketers" troll dev forums and social media forums. The most 'abusive' group (of a popular coin) that I've spotted has been Qtum.
I think they have a decent product, but I'd be really surprised if they are not literally paying people to come to Neo forums to promote the product. At one point 50% of the people in Neo forums were like... but isn't Qtum better?... over and over again.
The real tell tale sign was when like 75% of all posts over several weeks were exclusively promotions of Qtum, while the price of Neo was skyrocketing. That is not natural at all.
As it applies, I've also seen several groups influencing the Ethereum Devs in negative ways, which unfortunately has gone amiss in their calculations. I'm somewhat surprised 'socially engineered' marketing and sabotage is not something block chain companies anticipate.
Interesting article. You could be right.
