BTC-E is back! (Almost)

in bitcoin •  7 years ago

This is the oldest exchange that is alive up to date, its anonymous and always had good prices on BTC.

Lately USA SEC/FBI targetted them, blocked bank accounts and as BTC-E says - took 45% of their funds.

To everyones surprise BTC-E stated they will come back, pay people 55% of what they have and put rest as 1:1 tokens until they make money from fees to buy them back.

Whole September was passing and we had more and more news with good ones yesterday.

Literally minutes ago BTC-E.NZ (previously .com that is seized by US Gov) got live.

You can login and check balances and speak in trollbox. You cant trade as trading will be on another exchange.

I cant imagine anybody else to come back after FBI/USA Gov attacks.

If BTC-e genuinely intends to repay clients' funds, then it deserves a pat on the back. BTC-e could have folded and rebirthed, instead, they want to rebuild and repay. That's worth supporting.

As a stateist I got to express my surprise from this criminal act against a corporation and ask what were their excuses?

I cant imagine anybody else to come back after FBI/USA Gov attacks.

I know right. They totally discredited themselves with everything that happened in the past months. If they fuck up again how can you not blame anybody but yourself the second time.

Good news! Thanks for sharing!

Well thanks for informing :)

I think that they will come back stronger and better and should relocate to Europe

Why Europe? They should relocate to some tax haven country like Jersey Island or Bermuda or to some anti American South American country which is relatively stable (Brazil? Paraguay? Equador?)

There are some countries n Europe that offer better deal and more safe...they just have to contact me Haha

Europe is a US vessel.
To be more exact, Europe and US are proxies of "The Powers That Should not Be".

Good point however it depends on where and which European country.

Which European countries are not EU members or US vessels?

Hahahaha google European countries ..hahahahaha

BTC multiples like bunnies!

I believe Bitcoin Cash is the only real fork, isn't it?

Yeah Ill pass...

What was the reason for targetting them. And blocking bank accounts and taking some of their funds.

I am in favour of a class action suit against the US government for this action. Even if the exchange was liable for criminal activity the depositors are not liable. Wells Fargo in 2008, (Wachovia) laundered $378.4 billion. In May 2015, five of the largest banks in the world—JPMorgan Chase, Citicorp, Barclays, The Royal Bank of Scotland, and UBS—were fined $5.7 billion in a settlement over charges of market manipulation.
In July 2012, the United States Senate submitted a report accusing HSBC Holdings laundered funds from Mexican drug cartels. The total amount is impossible to gauge but a single affiliate exceeded $7 billion in one year.
In lawsuits filed by New York state and federal authorities in 2011, Bank of New York Mellon was accused of scraping $2 billion from pension funds throughout the US by inflating foreign exchange fees and defrauding customers out of that money. They pocketed the difference, which totaled more than $2 billion. In 2015, Bank of New York Mellon agreed to pay a $180 million settlement.
Source
I could go on but the point is that while an institution may be fined - the depositors with no criminal activity are not liable but the firms can be.

I know of people who live in other countries where the money stolen from their accounts by this action of the US government represents several years of personal income. I personally refuse to have any interaction with the US government and especially refuse to acknowledge that the SEC or FBI have any jurisdiction over me especially since I do not live nor do business in the USA. I also advocate boycotting the USA for vacation purposes and think twice if I have to buy their produce in the grocery stores.

This is great news. I miss the BTC-E trollbox.

I wonder if the return of BTC-E will affect the crypto market. It was probably assumed that a large chunk was seized.

When they went offline, the market remained resilient. Being back is an added bonus!

whee time to claim my 30 bux of ppc

I had a small amount of LTC there. Looking forward to getting some of it back!

It was a long standing exchange although perhaps a bit obscure. I found it strange that it's downfall seemingly did not affect the markets much. Perhaps indeed smaller than I thought.

I tried. Said my password expired and that they sent me an email to reset.

Never got the email in my inbox or spam folder.

ive reset my password too, all worked fine.
try again maybe they are swamped

Wow that is surprising!

I am still getting 520 error when I try to access.

Pls, check my article here its about car sharing system, hope you won't mind @kingscrown. Thank you and have a good time ;)

Did you have anything blocked or did you anticipate the closure?

i had (and still have since no withdrawals)

Hehe, I'm glad it worked out then ;)

I just really really really hope users can manage to get their funds out :(

me too but looks good so far

That’s great; they have created an action plan to resolve things over time.

I just hope the feds are not just pretending to be them and setting up shop.

That is my concern as well. How to know?

Very good writing

For USA SEC/FBI to target on them and block bank accounts and took 45% of their funds. Implies that there is a motive for that. However, I think its wise for there to be a compensation based on the fact that they came out clean. Also there such be a kind of protection for exchangers to avoid unnecessary set back in there business. Thanks @kingscrown for updating us on this.

ohh hell yea!!! you the man, man!

Nice Share

omg ... i wait it ,,thanks to sharing this info....

That's good thanks for info

FBI is more like Find-Ban-Income scheme, isn't it?

Why the FBI and the american govt. always ruin the things that makes its people live life to the fullest. My opinion if they the American Govt. dont take down btc-e i think its much like the btc prize by now.

If nefarious activities were being carried out, it would be strange for authorities not to come in and shut things down. Although we do not know the facts, I suppose the articles on the connection with the MtGox heist raise some concerns about some people running BTC-E. However, it does not feel right if innocent users with balances at an exchange are affected by police seizures.

sharing is very useful for me @kingscrown

Nice stuff, thanks for the info!

did they do anything wrong actually?

Hallo arlid

hallo

Good news indeed ! Awesome post as always. Thank you for sharing this with us my friend. ( I'm still a noob with all this crypto stuff but posts like these really help me ).

Thank you !

it is incredible, they still resist!

World's largest market for buying selling bitcoin (BTC) for Mexican Peso (MXN).

Good news.

What was the history with the US Gov coming in and seizing the 45% of the funds? I did a quick Google and didn't find any articles that explained it right.

all I see it a Cloudflare error when I try it. Does it work for anyone?

it's so strange that's why get so many upvote, I wish we could give a upvote.

Nice article, thanks. Is there any link to an explanation about why 45% seized?

I'd imagine that was what was in the hot wallets.

I thought it would never come back when I saw that it was seized by the FBI thinking that they can dictate, control and regulate things like foreign exchanges which as you said is ridiculous as the US shouldn't be acting like world police.

I heard they are blocking US customers and it is probably a smart move rather than suffer any other problems. Thanks for the update @kingscrown

I'm in the US and was able to see the site, and the trollbox activity includes people I recognize. Haven't tried to log back in yet, so you might be right.

This is interesting, showing they're registered in the Virgin Islands: https://www.whois.com/whois/btc-e.nz

Obviously the price of 1 BTC will reach 5k USD...hope this will happen in next month..

Yeah, bring it back to the flow!

many people had money in that i hope it came back soon :)

meep

Looks like a old big player is come back now, great thanks for the information sir @kingscrown

anyone with half a brain wouldn't come near that place!

Thanks for the information, it is very useful to keep up to date on these issues

Am I only one who just generally dislikes the way the site looks?

Put money into BTC-E now that the gov has them in the cross-hairs? I think not.

theres millions of USDs there already ;)

Good to see that this old exchange is coming back online. Too bad that not all balances could be saved in the downturn, but at least some was saved (I understand).

I had no balances there so I was not personally affected. I hope (innocent) affected users will have the chance to see part of the missing balances returned somehow.

Meanwhile, Bitcoin booming without signs of a new Bitcoin Bubble yet.
